New Jersey Business Publishes ‘Innovation Ecosystem’ Special Supplement; Highlights Academic-Industry Collaborations

NJ Business Innovation Ecoysystem 2016Trenton, NJ, June 9, 2016New Jersey Business magazine, a publication of New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) has published a special supplement, “Innovation Ecosystem: Forging Academic & Industry Collaborations,” that was unveiled this week at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization’s (BIO) annual international convention in San Francisco.

The supplement includes profiles of Montclair State University, Rowan University, Rutgers University and Stevens Institute of Technology.

In the report’s introductory letter, New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education Rochelle Hendricks wrote, “Now, more than ever, our New Jersey colleges and universities are becoming fully engaged partners with business and industry.  Together, we are conducting exciting research, equipping students with industry-valued credentials and degrees, while driving innovation that will keep us competitive in the global economy.” Continue reading

NJBIA Says Job Growth Stats Show NJ Economy Moving in Right Direction; New Job Training Centers Will Keep Economic Momentum Going

NJBIA Logo - CROPPEDTrenton, NJ, April 24, 2016 ― The New Jersey Business & Industry Association, representing 20,000 New Jersey businesses, hailed new government data released today indicating another round of solid monthly job gains in March, saying it showed the state’s economic recovery is sustained and accelerating.

The number of New Jersey residents reporting to have jobs reached a record high 4.37 million in March, according to the state Department of Labor & Workforce Development, citing preliminary data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Private-sector employers have added 265,000 jobs since February of 2010 at the height of the recession, the department said.

“The $2.3 billion in NJBIA-backed business tax cuts and reforms that have been enacted by the Governor and Legislature are allowing our businesses to make the investments they need for the future, and that is creating new jobs,” NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka said. Continue reading

Opportunity New Jersey Created to Build the State’s Economy and Create Jobs

Trenton, NJ, March 1, 2016 ― The coalition members who sponsored the New Jersey Business Summit in September 2015 has announced the formation of a grassroots organization called Opportunity New Jersey whose mission is to increase awareness of the impact that policies and legislative action will have on the state’s economy and job growth for New Jersey citizens.

Opportunity New Jersey will use grassroots outreach to inform policymakers and the public about how proposals out of Trenton will impact the state economy.  The 501(c)(4) organization will raise the donations from individuals, businesses and organizations.

“We have invited state leaders to meet with the business community and to consider us as an asset in creating economic growth programs,” said Tom Bracken, president and CEO of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce.  “Opportunity New Jersey will give us a wider platform to make sure that concerns about job growth are part of the discussion about addressing New Jersey’s economic challenges.” Continue reading

Event: NJ Rare Disease Alliance to Commemorate Rare Disease Day 2016 on February 29 in Trenton

Rare Disease DayTrenton, NJ, February 27, 2016 ― The New Jersey Rare Disease Alliance (NJRDA) — dedicated to improving the lives of the more than 800,000 rare disease patients in New Jersey — is hosting an event to observe global Rare Disease Day on Monday, February 29 starting at 10:00 a.m. at the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA), 10 West Lafayette Street, Trenton.

Sponsored in conjunction with BioNJ, the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ) and the National Organization for Rare Diseases (NORD), training will be provided on how to more effectively build relationships with legislators and other policymakers on behalf of rare disease patients.

Following a NORD-sponsored breakfast at 10:00 a.m. there will be an hour of training from 10:30-11:30 a.m. by state legislative experts from HINJ and BioNJ.  Senator Diane Allen (Burlington) will present a ceremonial resolution commemorating Rare Disease Day 2016 in New Jersey. Continue reading

NJBIA’s committee will complement the work of the Innovation New Jersey, a coalition that was co-founded in 2010 by HINJ and NJBIA.

The new NJBIA committee will develop and advocate for policies that promote investment in research and development, collaboration between industry and higher education institutions, and entrepreneurship that will proliferate New Jersey’s standing as a global research hub and retain the economic benefits the state has come to rely. NJBIA’s 2016 Business Outlook Survey Shows Members Are Positive AboutYear Ahead

NJBIA Names Mary Beaumont Vice President of Health and Legal Affairs
