The NJLSVA was founded to educate suppliers on trends in industry procurement and public policy that affects the life sciences industry.

Monmouth University Recognized by EPA as Top Green Power User in Metro Atlantic Conference in 2016-2017

West Long Branch, NJ, May 1, 2017 — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Monmouth University as an Individual Conference Champion of the 2016-17 College & University Green Power Challenge for using more green power than any other school in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Green power is zero-emissions electricity generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, eligible biogas, biomass, and low-impact hydro.

Using green power helps accelerate the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide and helps users reduce their carbon footprints. Continue reading

Washington, DC, September 16, 2016 — U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker on September 13 announced that Rutgers University — New Brunswick has been awarded $2,999,055 in federal funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop research into the risks of climate change on coastal communities and their resilience to such threats,

“As we approach the fourth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, it is absolutely critical that we do all we can to understand and respond to the real threat that climate change poses to the Jersey Shore and other low-lying communities throughout our state,” said Sen. Menendez.

“This grant,” Sen. Menendez continued, “will help Rutgers develop cutting edge methods to safeguard our families, fortify our coastal environment, and shelter our economy from the worst impacts of climate change.  I am proud that Rutgers is committed to remaining a leader in climate education and innovation to protect our coastal communities from sea level rise and more frequent and more powerful storms.” Continue reading

Montclair State University Opens New Center for Environmental and Life Sciences

Montclair State U squareMontclair, NJ, December 6, 2015 ― Montclair State University has celebrated the opening of its new Center for Environmental and Life Sciences (CELS) building with a ribbon cutting ceremony, reports Lindsey Kelleher in The Record.

The new science school will offer research facilities and institutional laboratories, a geographic information systems (GIS) laboratory, four environmental teaching laboratories, environmental and medicinal chemistry research laboratories, a computational research laboratory, an electron microscope, an atomic force microscope, and a green terrace for completing botanical research. Montclair State University Dedicates $55M Center for Environmental and Life Sciences

Montclair, NJ, October 15, 2015 — Patricia Alex reported in The Record that Montclair State University officially dedicated its new $55 million science building on Tuesday.

The new Center for Environmental and Life Sciences sits atop a bluff on the campus and features a stunning view of Manhattan.  The five-story building comprises 107,500-square-feet and will expand Montclair State’s science research infrastructure by at least 40 percent, the school said.

The university has about 3,000 students enrolled in its science programs, President Susan A. Cole said. Continue reading
