CMS Announces Average Medicare Part D Drug Premium Expected to Dip in 2018

Washington, DC, August 4, 2017 — The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on August 2 announced that the average basic premium for a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan in 2018 is projected to decline to an estimated $33.50 per month.

This represents a decrease of approximately $1.20 below the actual average premium of $34.70 in 2017.

Some 43 million seniors have Medicare “Part D” prescription coverage. Continue reading

Seema Verma Confirmed as Director of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

Washington, DC, March 14, 2017 — The Senate on Monday confirmed President Donald Trump’s nominee, Seema Verma, to serve as the director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Indiana health care consultant Seema Verma.

Verma was confirmed 55-43 in the Senate Monday evening.

During her confirmation hearings, Verma said that she does not support turning Medicare, the government’s program for adults over 65 and people with disabilities, into a voucher plan in which people would select coverage from private health insurance companies. Continue reading
