NJ Hospital Association Names State Health Commissioner Cathleen Bennett as President and CEO

Princeton, NJ, September 27, 2017 — The New Jersey Hospital Association Board of Trustees yesterday announced that New Jersey Health Commissioner Cathleen Bennett, Esq., will serve as the next president and CEO of the Princeton-based trade organization whose membership includes nearly 400 hospital, health system and post-acute care members.

Bennett will assume her new duties Nov. 9, becoming the sixth president and CEO in the Association’s 99-year history.  She will succeed Betsy Ryan, who has led the organization since 2008.

“We are fortunate to have found the right person for this key role, right down Route 1 in the heart of New Jersey,” said Steven G. Littleson, FACHE, president of the hospital services division and chief operating officer of Hackensack Meridian Health, who chairs the NJHA Board and led the Search Committee. Continue reading

New Jersey Celebrates National Minority Health Month 2017; Health Equity Forums Scheduled

Trenton, NJ, April 11, 2017 — April is National Minority Health Month and this year’s theme is “Bridging Health Equity Across Communities.”

To raise awareness and highlight New Jersey’s efforts to promote and build healthier communities, hospitals, local and county health departments, and community groups will host more than 70 events throughout the state.

The New Jersey Department of Health’s Office of Minority and Multicultural Health (OMMH), along with its local partners, will be holding a series of health equity forums to encourage health and wellness, and disease prevention. Continue reading

NJ Department of Health Seeks 2017 Population Health Heroes

Trenton, NJ, February 3, 2017 — New Jersey Health Commissioner Cathleen D. Bennett today announced that the Department is seeking applications for its first Population Health Heroes Awards to recognize New Jersey’s innovative leaders who are making system, policy and environmental changes that improve health.

Christie Administration Announces $3.2 Million in Grants for Autism Medical Homes, Expansion of Autism Research

Trenton, NJ, November 10, 2016 — New Jersey Health Commissioner Cathleen Bennett today announced $3.2 million in grant funds for Autism Health Needs Medical Homes and advanced research in the understanding, evaluation and treatment of autism.

The funding went to medical schools, universities and hospitals.

Newark, NJ, June 7, 2016 ― Cathleen D. Bennett was sworn in today as the 20th Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health.

Bennett’s mother, Grace De Marco, held the Bible while the Oath of Office was administered to Bennett by the Honorable Superior Court Judge Karen Suter, a former Commissioner of the Department of Banking and Insurance.

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, members of the Governor’s Office, family, friends and Department staff were among the 100 guests who attended the ceremony in the auditorium of the Health Department in Trenton.

Cathleen Bennett began serving as Acting Commissioner of the Department of Health on August 3, 2015.  Governor Christie formally nominated Bennett as Commissioner on Dec. 14, 2015.  She joined the Department as Director of Policy and Strategic Planning in August 2010. Continue reading
