Rowan University and AtlantiCare Explore Feasibility of an Atlantic City Medical School

Glassboro, NJ, February 22, 2016 ― Andrew Sheldon reports in NJBIZ that Rowan University, in partnership with AtlantiCare Health System, has procured the services of the Tripp Umbach consulting company to determine the feasibility of a new school of osteopathic medicine, which would be located in Atlantic City.

“This is the first step,” said Joe Cardona, vice president for university relations at Rowan. “We both agree we’re serious about the possibility of this happening.”

How serious?  The university and AtlantiCare split the $100,000 cost of the study.

According to Cardona, this investment represents the recognition of a growing need for physicians in New Jersey.

“By the year 2020, we’re going to be short 3,000 physicians in the state,” he said. “And, if you go out to West Virginia for your undergraduate degree, the odds are you’re going to stay out there.”
