NJTC Names James Barrood as New CEO, Succeeding Maxine Ballen

Mount Laurel, NJ, July 16, 2014 — The New Jersey Technology Council (NJTC) has announced that James Barrood will become its Chief Executive Officer as of August 11.

According to NJBIZ’s Andrew Sheldon, Barrood’s resume includes running Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurship since 1997, where he had a large role in connecting the area’s entrepreneurial, enterprise and technology community.

The appointment comes with the stepping-down of NJTC’s founder, CEO and President Maxine Ballen, who headed the institute for 18 years.  During Ballen’s tenure, she grew the institution into one of North America’s most successful trade organizations.

“I’ve been part of the NJTC for many years,” Ballen said in a news release.  “Though I’m looking forward to working on new projects, leaving is bittersweet.  I know the council is in good hands with the appointment of Jim Barrood. It’s an exciting time for the council.”

The Philadelphia Business Journal’s Lauren Hertzler reported that Barrood said he is honored to succeed Ballen, as he’s “long admired her work, and often learned from it.”

Most of all, Barrood is excited to be working with the NJTC board and the non-profit group’s technology leaders to “define the future we want — and go out and make it happen.”

The New Jersey Technology Council (NJTC) provides business support, networking opportunities, information, advocacy, and recognition of technology companies and their leaders.  Founded in 1996, NJTC’s member companies work together to support their own enterprises while advancing New Jersey’s status as a leading technology center in the United States.

The NJTC offers its member companies access to networking, financing resources, expertise and more. A private, not-for-profit membership organization, the NJTC fosters and grows a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and nurtures a community where great ideas take flight.
