NJ Big Data Alliance to Host Inaugural Symposium, ‘Partnership in Big Data,’ April 23 at Rutgers

New Brunswick, NJ, April 21, 2014 — The New Jersey Big Data Alliance (NJBDA) will launch officially at its inaugural symposium, entitled “Partnerships in Big Data:  Pathways to Transformative Innovation in New Jersey,” on Wednesday, April 23 from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Rutgers’ Livingston Hall at 88 Joyce Kilmer Avenue in Piscataway.

The proliferation of data sources and the resultant deluge of digital data is significantly impacting all sectors of industry, academia and society.  Challenges associated with the collection, management and analysis of extremely large data sets permeate many industry sectors in New Jersey including the financial, biopharmaceutical, insurance and energy sectors.

Similarly, researchers in diverse academic fields are grappling with the transport, storage and analysis of extremely large data sets.  All share the challenge of identifying and recruiting candidates that possess the analytical skills necessary to thrive in today’s data-driven world.

The New Jersey Big Data Alliance (NJBDA) Symposium will be used to broaden statewide awareness of the NJBDA, a consortium of New Jersey higher education institutions, and will provide a forum for policy makers and individuals from New Jersey industry and academia to learn more about the challenges and opportunities associated with “Big Data.”

The New Jersey Big Data Alliance is a consortium of higher education institutions that was initiated by the Rutgers Office of Research and Economic Development to address the challenges posted by the deluge of digital data.

This unprecedented alliance brings together universities and colleges from across New Jersey, and has the overarching goals of identifying common challenges and areas of synergy, developing joint programs, and ultimately nucleating an effective alliance that will increase the universities’ research competitiveness and drive economic development within New Jersey.

Current NJBDA members include Rutgers, Stevens Institute of Technology, Kean University, Montclair State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Rowan University, Richard Stockton College and Princeton University.

The Alliance invites you and your colleagues to attend this inaugural event.  Registration is free, but hurry because space is limited.  Registration will be closed at noon on noon April 22.
