HHS Reports Obamacare Enrollment in NJ Up by 14 Percent

ObamacareWashington, DC, December 25, 2016 — Kathleen O’Brien reports in The Star-Ledger that New Jersey’s enrollment in Obamacare is running at a pace that is 14 percent higher than this time last year, federal officials said Wednesday.

That means the state is tied as the third-highest jump among the 39 states that participate in the federal online marketplace for subsidized health insurance, they indicated.

Roughly two million Americans have signed up for health insurance plans for themselves and their families through the first half of Obamacare’s open enrollment period which began Nov. 1. That’s about 400,00 more than last year.

The federal government’s website for buying subsidized insurance, healthcare.gov broke an all-time record last week when 670,000 people called to enroll in a plan or switch to another one.

However, so many people swamped the call center that many had to leave call-back numbers, and the deadline for coverage beginning Jan. 1st was extended by two business days.

The overall deadline for open enrollment is Jan. 31. That coverage will go into effect Feb. 1 or March 1, depending on the sign-up date.
