NJ Health Commissioner Mary O’Dowd Tops NJBIZ Health Care ‘Power 50’

Somerset, NJ, March 26, 2013— NJBIZ has published its annual listing of New Jersey’s health care “Power 50.”  At the top of its 2013 Power 50 list is New Jersey Commissioner of Health and Senior Services Mary O’ Dowd.

“We’re going at warp speed, on roads we’ve never been down, and no one knows where we’re going,” is how one executive summarized the state of hospitals and health care for NJBIZ.

NJBIZ concedes that ranking the most powerful people in New Jersey’s healthcare industry is much the same.  It is an inexact sciences that involves examining not only what hospital executives and others have done as the landscape shifts, but putting together the pieces available to divine and evaluate their long-term strategies.

Writing on O’Dowd, who was ranked number two on last year’s Power 50 list, NJBIZ reports:  “If the story of the day is saving troubled hospitals, O’Dowd is the author.  She’s the one who has to sign off on the acquisitions that are reshaping the landscape and changing how care is delivered and paid for.”

“Few in Chris Christie’s cabinet can have their face out there because of how close to the vest the governor plays his cards; O’Dowd has no such trouble, especially as health care is so tightly regulated,” NJBIZ adds.
