CBO Report: GOP’s Health Care Bill Could Leave 24M More Without Coverage by 2026

Washington, DC, March 13, 2017 — The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) today released a report that finds the House Republican bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act would reduce the federal deficit by $337 billion over a decade, but would also leave 24 million more Americans uninsured during that same period.

That legislation has already drawn opposition from major interest groups, health policy experts, and even some GOP lawmakers.

Meanwhile, The Hill reported that the Trump administration on Monday slammed the CBO estimate that millions of people would become uninsured under the Republicans’ plan.

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price told reporters at the White House, “We disagree strenuously with the report that was put out,”

Secretary Price said the analysis does not take into account the entirety of the GOP plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, which he said would cover more people while lowering costs.

The long-awaited report has roiled the debate over the GOP’s bid to overhaul the healthcare system, which would include repealing many elements of the Affordable Care Act and creating a new tax credit to help people buy insurance.
