$44.5 Million NIMH Grant Bolsters RUCDR Infinite Biologics as Primary Resource for Genomic Research
Piscataway, NJ, June 27, 2013 — RUCDR Infinite Biologics, the world’s largest university-based biorepository, received a $44.5 million Cooperative Agreement award from the National Institute of Mental Health earlier this month to support its NIMH Center for Collaborative Genomics Research on Mental Disorders, which provides services to NIMH-funded scientists engaged in genomic research on mental disorders.
RUCDR Infinite Biologics, which recently completed an $11.4 million expansion and renovation, is located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Continue reading
Study: Wiser Medication Use Could Save U.S. $213B a Year in Avoidable Health Care Costs
Washington, NJ, June 20, 2013 — The Washington Post reported that if doctors and patients used prescription drugs more wisely, they could save the U.S. health care system at least $213 billion a year, by reducing medication overuse, underuse and other flaws in care that cause complications and longer, more-expensive treatments, researchers conclude.

Human Genome Project Paid Off in $966 Billion Life Sciences Boom
New York, NY, June 12, 2013 — Bloomberg reports that the $14.5 billion investment by the U.S. in the Human Genome Project, completed a decade ago, has paid off more than 60-fold in new jobs, drugs and a rapidly expanding genetics industry, an analysis has found.
The endeavor to map human DNA in its entirety created $966 billion in economic impact and $59 billion in federal tax revenue, according to the study released today by United for Medical Research and Battelle, two research advocacy groups. Continue reading
